The Maasai School used to be located under a Tree, but they now have three classrooms for 90 students, protected from Wild Animals and the rough bush Weather.
Moyo Primary School is built entirely with Private Donations.
“ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
Nelson MandelaEducation
There are many expenses to run a School. Most of the Maasai parents are not able to pay school fees, so we need support to cover the costs through donations.
Donations will cover the costs of purchasing the necessary school supplies teacher trainings, Maasai School staff salaries, and Daily School Meals.
We appreciate all the support we can get to the school to create a thriving learning environment for the Maasai students and keep this Project alive.
Books and Stationery
Moyo Primary School currently has five classes: Playgroup, PP1, PP2, Grade 1 and Grade 2. We always need School equipment and School textbooks.
We appreciate all donations, however it is better for the School to get the specific Text Books and stationary that we need.
We have therefore made a wish list that you can print out and use if you would like to purchase items yourself.
Donations can be delivered to our Head Office in Nairobi. Please contact us to arrange.
Water
We often take Water for granted, but can you imagine not having Water?
The School needs Water for so many things such as for drinking, cooking, cleaning and washing hands.

Why We Need You
Message from Taran
Thank you for showing interest in the Maasai School Project.
Moyo Primary School is built far out in the bush where Education is a neglected topic. I built the School in this particular bush area due to the need of a local School with walking distance for the children living there. I believe that Education is crucial to have in the world we live in today, and Education should be provided for everyone and also for Maasai children living in the bush.
Maasai people have a beautiful culture that we all want to preserve, and Education will only empower them more. The transformation from teaching under a Tree to having a proper School is a big and positive change for the children and Maasai Community. This Project shows that everything is possible if we keep our focus and move in the right direction. There is still a lot to be done, and we need all the support we can get to keep this Maasai School Project going. The children will build and shape their future through this Project. Thank you so much for believing in the work we do and for all your support!
Journey to building the school
From under the Tree
It started during a Safari trip.
14 Maasai children were sitting on the ground under a Tree and this was their School. Totally unprotected from the rough bush weather and Wild Animals. The Journey to building a School for them started.

It started during a safari trip
I was on safari in Amboseli Kenya in 2019. After seeing so many beautiful animals and wildlife, the Maasai guide, Jacob, wanted to stop by a school so that I could say hello to the children.

"The School is under this Tree"
We reached a Tree and 14 kids and two Teachers were sitting on the ground under it. They didn’t have any school equipment or other resources. After greeting them I started looking around and I asked naively “where is the School building?” Jacob told me that it´s right here. “The School is under this Tree”.

The teachers & pupils
Teaching young children under trees is not uncommon in Kenya, but I had never really visited a school like this before and it made a huge impression on me.

Chairs, tables & stationery
We went to a local market and bought chairs, tables and stationery. It was then all loaded onto one of the local taxis (matatus), that drove four hours back to Amboseli. Jacob later sent me pictures of happy children sitting on the new chairs, and lots of gratitude from the Maasai community.

Wild Animals
Jacob contacted me again and asked me if I would consider fundraising to build a school for the children. It would be so good to get the children under a roof to protect them from wild animals and give them proper learning facilities.

Building the School
My Mom used to be a primary school teacher: She was passionate about education and teaching. I decided to build a school in her memory and this way continue her work. The school we managed to build with only private donations gave space and education for 90 Primary School children.
